Egidio Gavazzi, the ecological editor who died in a plane crash

An ultralight plane crashes in the skies of Padua and an 84 year old dies: it was Egidio Gavazzi, ecologist and editor of magazines. The incident happened this morning when the vehicle was landing. It’s hard to say what could have happened before the crash, but the plane crashed into the airport, crashed to the ground and caught fire. The 84-year-old died charred and over the course of hours, the police were able to trace his identity: the well-known businessman.

On the spot firefighters and law enforcement agencies: according to the first reconstructions the plane would have gone long on landing, hitting a tree and ending its flight in the square in front, overturning and catching fire.

Gavazzi was born in Erba, in the province of Como, in 1937. Member of an important family of the Lombard bourgeoisie, Gavazzi was a naturalist and photographer, founding magazines including Airone, Aqua, Silva, Alisei. He had given birth to the Italian Photographic Hunting Society, and had given impetus to the foundation of the Italian section of Greenpeace. He was also fond of airplanes, which he continued to fly in old age.
