Laying hen farmers see their livelihood endangered by the rising feed prices.
The egg producers are demanding more money from retailers. “The livelihood of laying hen farmers has been endangered for months by the rising feed prices. Solidarity and fairness in trade are now required,” the Austrian Fresh Egg Producers’ Association (EZG Frischei) and the Central Working Group of the Austrian Poultry Industry (ZAG) appealed to their customers today.
Official AMA price reports would show a price reduction of eight percent for free-range eggs for 2020 compared to 2010, said EZG chairman Franz Kirchweger in a broadcast. An increase in producer prices is urgently needed. In the trade, however, eggs are increasingly being offered at promotional prices.
