EG.5 Variant Boosts Vaccination Coverage in Peru: Ministry of Health Reports

The first cases of the EG.5 variant of covid-19 that have been registered in Peru have caused better vaccination coverage in Lima and regions, according to the Ministry of Health. (Minsa) .

People over 60 years of age are the ones who go the most for their bivalent vaccine, since they need two boosters at an interval of 4 months to be better protected, he added.

After Metropolitan Lima, the regions of Ancash (37%), Tumbes (27%), Ica (27%), La Libertad (23%) and Junín (21%) are making better progress with vaccination with the first booster of the vaccine bivalent in people over 60 years of age, said the Minsa, after indicating that it guarantees the supply of vaccines in all health establishments.

From January to date, the Minsa applied 1′ 710, 232 bivalent vaccines against covid-19 throughout the country. Only in the last two weeks more than 100,000 doses were applied. The Minsa recalled that this booster dose prevents the person from becoming seriously ill in case they contract the virus.

In addition to those over 60 years of age, people with some comorbidity, such as diabetics, hypertensives, cancer patients, obese, asthmatics, etc. they also need two boosters of the bivalent vaccine, but at an interval of 2 months.

The vaccination brigades will continue to mobilize house to house, in squares, parks, markets, shopping centers, among other places to bring vaccines to all people.
