efood: High profits for the delivery system – How much sales have risen –

Turnover of approximately 250 million euros was raised by the German multinational Delivery Hero in Greece in 2023, as not only its flagship efood (Online Delivery Sole Proprietorship for the Promotion of Online Services), but also its other subsidiaries, Go Delivery in distribution and Dmart Greece (p. p. the efood supermarket), made a jump in sales.

However, it is not only the turnover of the leading – based on turnover – e-commerce company in Greece that impresses. Equally spectacular is its total net profit that exceeded 35 million. euros, with the efood platform as the main “blood donor”.

It is recalled that the turnover of Online Delivery amounted to 163.8 million. euros in 2023 from 135.6 million euros in 2022, boosted by the increase in orders through the efood platform. The increase in revenue from commissions, by 18.8 million, is indicative. euros compared to 2022.

Net profit before tax jumped to 41.22 million. euros against 31.89 million euros of the previous year, while the net, after taxes, profits reached 31.8 million. euros from 25.16 million euro in 2022.

Soaring turnover and profits for Go Delivery

Regarding the performance of Go Delivery, the company of the Delivery Hero group responsible for the provision of delivery services, according to its financial statements published in GEMI, it saw a new jump in sales and profits.

In more detail, last year Go Delivery’s turnover increased by 16.5% and reached 59.54 million. euros against 51.08 million euro in 2022.

Net profit before taxes amounted to 3.254 million. euros against 2.199 million euros in 2022, marking an increase of 48%, while the rise in the after-tax result was equally impressive, as it amounted to 2.591 million. euros from 1.776 million euros in 2022, showing a percentage increase of 46%.

The increase in Go Delivery’s turnover came mainly from the increase in orders through the efood platform, as well as from the increase in stores using the efood fleet to distribute their products. From 7,498 in 2022, they reached 8,728 stores in 2023, showing an increase of 16%.

In 2023 there was an increase in expenses compared to the previous year (they amounted to 34.62 million from 20.05 million euros in 2022) mainly due to the increase in fees in distribution services (increase in the number of distributors), following the increase of orders through the digital platform.

In particular, the distributors that cooperate with Go Delivery and by extension with efood increased by 58%, compared to 2022.

It is noted that the increase in the number of cooperating distributors came mainly from the increase in the number of stores as well as from the increase in orders in the existing stores.

Reduction by 16.6% of employees

However, in contrast to the partner distributors, the Go Delivery employees employed on a full-time basis decreased in 2023 by 16.6%.

Specifically, out of 1,356 people who were employed in 2022, last year 1,131 people remained.

The thousands of requests from distributors

In any case, the total number of cooperating distributors has been continuously increasing in recent years, currently exceeding 6,000.

In fact, in 2024 the partners have increased by more than 20%, while based on information, applications for work from distributors currently exceed 5,000.

The efood market “returned” to profits

The Delivery Hero group, in addition to the efood platform and Go Delivery, also manages Delivery Hero Dmart Greece, under which is the efood market distribution service for supermarket products and other retail goods.

Dmart Greece’s turnover in 2023, compared to the previous year, increased by 7,662,716.33 euros, or 41.84%, reaching 25.97 million. euros from 18.31 million in 2022.

According to the management, this is mainly due to the merger by absorption of INKAT SA. (Kiosky’s).

We remind you that together with INKAT which belonged to the Mouchal group, the distribution platform delivery.gr as well as Alpha Distributions and the e-table platform were also acquired.

The pre-tax results for 2023 of Dmart Greece, which now has 42 branches, amounted to 638,018 euros against losses of 8,139,305 euros in 2022.

The “golden” dividends

The management of the company behind efood for the year ended December 31, 2023 proposes to distribute dividends of 19,500,000 euros.

During the current financial year, the company distributed dividends of 21,300,000 euros from the profits of the financial year 2022 after the approval of the Ordinary General Meeting of shareholders on May 22, 2023, as well as from the profits of the current financial year 2023 a pre-dividend of 13,000,000 euros after decision of the Board of Directors of the company of September 7, 2023.

The management of Go Delivery proposed the payment of a dividend of 2.8 million euros to Delivery Hero, while only Dmart Greece will not distribute a dividend to the parent company, as there are accumulated losses from previous years, as reported.
