Beirut – by Omar Al-Bardan

Efforts to find a way out of the presidential crisis in Lebanon have become limited to Qatari mediation undertaken by envoy Sheikh Jassim bin Fahd, after Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri announced that his initiative had become non-existent. In light of the secrecy surrounding the meetings of the Qatari envoy, there are no practical indicators that suggest the possibility of a breach in the presidential wall so far, which is what prompted Speaker Berri to express his fear that there are those who do not want to elect a president of the republic, and even more than that, do not want a crisis. To end, after the head of the Lebanese Forces Party, Samir Geagea, had previously expressed his lack of optimism about the possibility of electing a president soon.
Prominent opposition circles have asked whether the fate of the Qatari movement will meet the same fate as the French initiative?, confirming to Al-Seyassah that whoever thwarted the French efforts by insisting on his candidate Suleiman Franjieh will again intend to thwart the Qatari efforts aimed at getting Lebanon out of its impasse, and to rush… Electing the future president, by insisting on his conditions, keeps the vacancy in place, because the opposition cannot accept that, at a time when the Arab mediators confirm that the Lebanese president can only be a Lebanese creation, in light of Arab and international readiness to help remove the obstacles. Which objects to the internal consensus on the completion of the presidential election, indicating that the five-member group is determined to support the Lebanese by all means to overcome the impasse, but it cannot replace Parliament in electing the new president, saying that this is the task of the Lebanese leaders to work towards consensus on the name of the future president that awaits them. Arabs and the world.
The Grand Mufti of Lebanon, Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, expressed his regret that politicians have not fulfilled their responsibilities regarding the vacuum of institutions and have not stopped obstructing the judicial process, adding that they are “evading their major responsibilities for what the economic and social conditions of the Lebanese have reached.” In a message to him on the eve of the Prophet’s birthday, he affirmed that the presidential election will take place no matter how severe the storms are in order to put an end to the pain of the Lebanese, stressing that the internal movement is the basis for achieving the presidential election, while the external movement is considered helpful and supportive of it, pointing out that the Taif Agreement will remain the guarantor of the partnership. Islamic-Christian, and there is absolutely no place for proposals that tear the nation apart and divide the Lebanese.
In this context, the head of the “Free Patriotic Movement”, MP Gebran Bassil, confirmed after his meeting with Mufti Derian, that Lebanon will remain a country of partnership, the absence of which at any stage, and doing things without understanding and balanced partnership, will lead to failure to accomplish any entitlement. He said, “Now there is the entitlement to the presidency, and later there will be other entitlements, and any attempt to exclude anyone from them is not only a violation of the Constitution, the Charter, and the spirit of living together, but in practice it is a missed opportunity and a waste of time instead of fulfilling the entitlements on time.”
The Conference of Bishops of the Maronite Dioceses, which was held in Australia, expressed “great concern about the situation in Lebanon, especially the state remaining decapitated due to the failure to elect a president of the republic, the dissolution of constitutional institutions, the disruption of their role, and the irregularity of their work. They held the representatives and ministers responsible for the worsening economic and living conditions and the failure to create Solutions to put in place the reforms required to achieve stability first and then begin the recovery phase.
In addition, and in a qualitative achievement, the Information Division arrested the shooter at the American embassy, named Muhammad Mahdi Hussein Khalil, born on December 14, 1997, of Lebanese nationality, a resident of Burj al-Barajneh in the southern suburb of Beirut, and who has no security or criminal records, as the information was revealed. There were no political backgrounds behind the operation, but rather personal disputes about two months ago between the shooter and the embassy guards.
To the south, there was a mutual alert between the Lebanese army and the Israeli forces, as the army was building a military road in the liberated hills of Kafr Shuba, parallel to the military road built by the Israeli forces, behind the line of withdrawal between the Bastra and Fashkul farms in the Shebaa Farms.
