Belu Regency Government Takes Action to Prevent Rabies Transmission
Belu Regency, June 24, 2023 – The Belu Regency Government, led by Belu Regent Taolin Agustinus, is making intensive efforts to prevent the transmission of rabies in their area. Belu Regent Taolin, who is also a doctor, has instructed the Belu District Animal Husbandry Service to increase awareness and protect against the threat of rabies transmission.
One of the crucial steps in preventing rabies is through socialization on safeguarding rabies-free areas. “Securing the area free of rabies and other animal infectious diseases is immediately carried out so that no one in the community is infected with the disease,” said Regent Taolin during the First Sunday Meeting in June, held in the courtyard of the Belu Regent’s Office.
Rabies is a disease that primarily affects animals, especially dogs, but can be transmitted to humans and result in death. In a recent Webinar on Rabies Spreading Animals (HPR) in the Province, it was emphasized that limited elimination for affected animals is urgent.
Regent Taolin urged the Animal Husbandry Service to find a solution and inform the community about the characteristics of rabid dogs. Rabid animals tend to attack children aged 5-14 years, and if someone is bitten by a rabid dog, immediate administration of an anti-rabies vaccine is crucial for both humans and animals.
In response to the rabies outbreak in TTS, the Governor of NTT has ordered ten thousand doses of vaccines for Belu Regency. Efforts are also being made to ensure that livestock transportation in Belu Regency is measurable.
“We hope that the community will routinely vaccinate their pet dogs and report any symptoms of rabies immediately to the relevant agency,” added Regent Taolin. If cases of rabies in fierce, uncontrollable, and biting dogs are found, they should be reported to the PKH Service and the Belu District Health Office for appropriate action. Individuals who have been bitten should seek treatment at the nearest puskesmas or hospital.
The people of Belu District are also encouraged to report any suspicious stray dogs that may be infected with rabies to PKH officers. By working together and taking proactive measures, the Belu Regency Government aims to create a rabies-free environment and protect the health and safety of its residents.

This enables immediate response and timely treatment to prevent the disease from spreading further.
Furthermore, the Belu District Animal Husbandry Service is working closely with local communities to establish a rabies-free zone. This involves setting up checkpoints to restrict the movement of animals, especially dogs, in and out of the area.
