For a long time, there has been rumblings about Israel normalizing relations with Saudi Arabia.
The Israelis reached agreements with several Arab countries mediated by Trump, the Abrahamic Accords, in 2020.
The deal with Saudi Arabia could be a massive game-changer in the largest diplomatic agreement in the region in a generation, with the United States and Riyadh now agreeing to the outlines of a linked deal, or at least a report in the Wall Street Journal says.
In response to a question on the matter, a US State Department spokesperson told CNN that while the discussions have been productive, they are not there yet.
There are a number of issues that we have discussed, with both the Israeli government and the Saudi government, these discussions continue and I expect more of them to happen in the coming weeks,” said Matthew Miller, a State Department spokesman.
Miller continued by saying: “We have made progress on a number of issues, and I will not go into the details of this progress, but there is still a long way to go with an uncertain future. But it is an important initiative that we must continue to pursue.”
