SP-X/New York. Four-wheeled “cargo bikes” could make delivery traffic in New York more efficient. According to the city administration, the pedal-driven small vans with electric auxiliary motors are to replace the usual vans with combustion engines in the future. In order for the four-wheelers to be able to use the cycle path in addition to the road, a change in the road traffic regulations is necessary. So far, only two and three-wheelers are considered bicycles in the US metropolis. The regulation is now to be discussed publicly and then decided. In Germany, pedal-powered four-wheelers or velomobiles can already use the cycle path in principle, but so far the concept has not caught on beyond leisure or fun vehicles.
