Effects of Solar Eclipse Explosions on Sun Explained: Impact on Earth’s Magnetosphere

SERAYUNEWS – Approaching the celebration of Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijriah, there are natural phenomena that will decorate the sky at the end of the month of Ramadan. The event was called a Total Solar Eclipse (GMT).

This space phenomenon will take place on April 8, 2024. Or it coincides with H-2 before Eid for Muslims throughout the world.

At the same time, explosions also occurred on the Sun. So, what impact will this have on society in Indonesia? Check out the following article to find out more information.

Fact Check Results of Explosions on the Sun during a Total Solar Eclipse

According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), a total solar eclipse is a phenomenon where the moon passes between the sun and the earth. When this phenomenon occurs, the sky will be dark like dawn or dusk.

Unfortunately, Indonesia cannot directly witness the Total Solar Eclipse. This phenomenon can only be monitored in Mexico, the United States (US) and Canada.

Furthermore, based on a report from the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), explosions will be seen on the sun when the GMT event occurs. There is an edge, where you will see the Sun appearing to explode.

“When watching GMT April 8 2024, according to the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) you will see explosions on the Sun, during a total solar eclipse, the view of the Sun from Earth is blocked by the moon and leaves the edge. “It is on this edge that Earth can see the edge of the Sun’s plasma appearing to explode,” said BMKG in a press release, quoted by serayunews.com on Wednesday (3/4/2024).

BMKG explained that these explosions occurred because of what we know at the center of the Solar System. Activity levels ebb and flow over the 11-year cycle and peak this year.

So far, no one has been able to confirm and know what causes this phenomenon. However, BMKG revealed a possibility because it involves magnetic forces or nuclear reactions in the Sun.

The Impact of Explosions on the Sun for Earth

Meanwhile, solar explosions certainly affect the Earth’s magnetosphere. Meanwhile, we will be able to know the exact influence when BMKG or other institutions observe the phenomenon in real time.

However, scientists have predicted that the explosion could cause an Earth magnetic storm (Geomagnetic Storm). This storm will cause electrical activity and the like to be hampered.

Earth’s magnetic storm occurs because an explosion on the Sun ejects a large amount of plasma. This plasma can be in the form of solar wind along with a high-speed magnetic field.

Meanwhile, this corona mass ejection event is usually called Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). When a CME hits the Earth’s magnetic field, particles will be ejected and deflected by the magnetosphere layer towards the north and south pole lines.

The Earth’s magnetosphere is the Earth’s shield layer that can protect the Earth from the effects of high-speed particle radiation. This layer is shaped like a circle with the strongest point being at low latitudes.

The effect of the explosion on the Sun will be more pronounced at high latitudes. Then in low latitude areas, for example Indonesia, the effect will not be very pronounced or will be relatively safer.

Conclusion

So, we can conclude that there is no direct connection between the explosion on the sun and the Total Solar Eclipse event. The impact is in the form of an earthly magnetic storm which is relatively safe, including in Indonesia because it is located at low latitudes.
