Milkshakes are considered one of the worst drinks that can raise the percentage of harmful LDL cholesterol, and not only that, but they also lower the percentage of good HDL cholesterol in the body.

A recent study has proven that milkshakes are the first enemy of patients with cholesterol and high blood pressure, as they affect the elasticity of blood vessels as a result of them containing a large amount of fats found in milk, ice cream, and the sugars added to this drink.

The study indicated that drinking milkshakes may lead to unhealthy changes in blood vessels and red blood cells.

The researchers asked 10 healthy men participating in the study to drink a milkshake made with whole milk, whipped cream, and ice cream, as this juice contains 80 grams of fat and 1,000 calories.

Four hours later, laboratory tests revealed evidence that the men’s blood vessels were less able to relax or expand, and some of their red blood cells had changed shape, becoming sharp instead of smooth.

Red blood cells are usually smooth, but after eating a high-fat meal they become spike-like, which may affect blood flow.

The men participating in the study were shown to have temporary increases in levels of an enzyme called myeloperoxidase, which has been linked to hardening of blood vessels and heart attacks.

The American Heart Association recommends that healthy adults limit fat intake to 20 to 35 percent of daily calories for people on a 2,000-calorie diet.
