Effective Solutions for Dealing with Post-Holiday Tree Waste: Insights from Elected Officials and Services

Elected officials and services are looking for solutions to deal with “tree waste” after the holidays. The law prohibits sending them to the incinerator.

Dreal* put cameras at the incinerator to refuse trucks with this type of waste », insists Bernard Angerlas, Nîmes elected official in charge of cleanliness in the city and vice-president in charge of waste collection in Nîmes metropolis. « Normally, you have to take these fir trees to the recycling center since they can no longer be collected in household waste bins. But elderly people in the city center tell us that they don’t have a car to do it… », continues the elected official. How to do ? “ We are considering whether a truck could not pass specially over a few days », reflects Bernard Angerlas. The city could also define places to place the trees like in Montpellier ».

The question is where the trees will end up? The Nîmes offers: “ We could use the city’s composting site, avenue Bompard. » Five weeks before Christmas, the councilor prefers to prepare… For several weeks, administrators and employees have been complaining about the organization of the new waste collection rounds. “ We can also multiply the Teom rate by four! I understand that changing habits is not easy, but you have to know what you want! », s’agace Bernard Angelras.
