ALSO, Lingkarjateng.id – The Pati Regency Health Service (Dinkes) said that eradicating Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DBD) through fumigation or fogging was considered very ineffective. This was conveyed by the Head of the Disease Control and Prevention (P2P) Division of the Pati Health Office, Joko Leksono, recently.

Entering the rainy season, the Pati Health Office reminds the public to adopt a Clean and Healthy Lifestyle (PHBS). In this way, eradicating mosquito nests (PSN) no longer needs to be done by fogging. So far there have been 411 cases of dengue fever in Pati.

“The rainy season makes some places even more humid. “It is feared that damp places will become breeding grounds for the Aides Aygepti mosquito,” said Joko Leksono.

Therefore, the public is advised to eradicate mosquito nests in bathrooms and puddles of water so that they do not become a place for mosquito larvae.

“WCs, bathtubs, other puddles of water need to be cleaned with PSN,” he said recently.

Three Pati Residents Died Due to Dengue, Health Department Urges to Implement PSN

According to him, effective eradication of dengue fever can be done through PSN. The method used is to break the chain of reproduction of mosquitoes that carry the dengue virus. In contrast to fogging, only adult mosquitoes are eradicated.

“The main step is PSN, because fogging is very ineffective,” he said.

Apart from being ineffective, he continued, the use of fogging also incurs expensive operational costs, limited experts from the Health Department, and air pollution, especially if malation is used in any place.

The reason is, the use of malathion can cause health problems for both humans and pets who inhale this toxic substance.

“Fogging has many disadvantages, namely expensive operational costs. One point costs IDR 2.7 million. If there are two points, the cost could reach IDR 5.4 million. “We need specially trained personnel, we have three teams,” he said.

The material used, he said, was malathion, which is an insect, mixed with diesel fuel to produce high-pressure fumigation.

“You need to consider using it because it kills animals, it could be dangerous if there are pets around,” he said.

He advised the public not to rely on fogging to eradicate dengue fever in Pati. However, people are advised to independently actively carry out PSN 3M-plus, namely Draining, Covering, Burying plus not hanging clothes, applying larvicide and keeping fish in water reservoirs, as well as using anti-mosquito lotion and sleeping using mosquito nets.

“We can no longer rely on fogging specifically for dengue fever from Aides Aygepti, unless it’s an emergency. “Implementing PSN will break the dengue mosquito cycle chain, so that mosquitoes will no longer lay eggs because we have eradicated the parent mosquitoes, especially if we apply PSN simultaneously,” he concluded.
