Suara.com – Denmark is the newest country to develop the Covid-19 vaccine, after the results of research in civets showed positive results.
The authorities last week started a plan to destroy 17 million minks belonging to Denmark, one of the world’s largest populations. It said the recent virus findings in mink and human farms could slow it down vaccine COVID-19 future.
Early research on a mutated strain, known as Cluster 5, suggests the virus has decreased sensitivity to antibodies, potentially jeopardizing the efficacy of future vaccines, authorities said last week.
But the antibodies from rabbits treated with the Danish State Institute’s State Serum Institute (SSI) early-stage vaccine candidate were successful against the Cluster 5 variant, according to SSI’s leading scientist Anders Fomsgaard.

“We cannot help but test our rabbit antibody against Cluster 5, and it is effective,” Fomsgaard told Danish broadcaster DR on Thursday.
The vaccine candidate, which is in the early stages of development, will soon be used in human trials, which is not certain will have the same effect.
“Whether this applies to other vaccines and whether it applies to human antibodies, we don’t know,” he said.
Reuters was unable to reach Fomsgaard for questioning.
The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control said Thursday’s risk assessment raised “great uncertainty” about the potential threat posed by spreading the virus to mink, its mutations and the consequences of spreading to humans. [ANTARA]
