As he explained to the Estonian public radio station on Friday, gas reserves in Estonia are sufficient and supplies continue. He described the situation where suppliers make multiple orders and engage in negotiations as a common practice.

Commenting on the statements of Narva municipality that the city is going to declare a state of emergency due to gas shortage, Kotov said that in this case “Eesti Gaas” did not participate in the procurement tender because it believed that the energy company “Estonian Energy“s can provide gas reserves within its concern.

When a new procurement tender is organized, “Eesti Gaas” will participate in it to ensure gas supplies to consumers in Estonia’s third largest city.

Kotov urged “Eesti Gaas” customers not to worry about energy reserves for the new heating season. Currently, three large cargoes for the needs of Estonia have been delivered to the Klaipėda liquefied natural gas terminal.

It has already been announced that the crisis committee of the Narva municipality on Thursday admitted that there is a threat of an emergency situation, because in the natural gas procurement tender, which was organized by the company “Enefit Power”, no applicant has applied and the city is threatened with interruption of natural gas supplies.

The chairman of the board of the Estonian energy company “Eesti Energia”, Hando Suters, told ERR on Tuesday that a national emergency should be declared as soon as possible in connection with the natural gas supply situation in the country. This would allow heat supply companies and industrial customers to start applying for temporary and emergency changes to their integrated environmental permits in order to use other – more polluting – energy sources.

“Eesti Energia” is an Estonian state-owned producer and seller of electricity and heat. “Enefit Power” is its subsidiary.

On the other hand, “Eesti Gaas” delivers natural gas through pipelines, as compressed natural gas and as liquefied natural gas. The company also sells electricity to households and companies, as well as develops various energy production solutions. The sole shareholder of “Eesti Gaas” is the Estonian investment company “inform” subsidiary company “Trilini Energy”. In Latvia and Finland the company works under the brand “Elenger”.
