Senator Yasna Provoste, representative of the Christian Democracy (DC), has highlighted the deep educational crisis that affects the Atacama region. In a detailed presentation made during the program Depth of Fields in TV SenateProvoste unraveled the complexities of this situation and expressed his conclusions about the authorities’ handling of the matter.
The crisis covers various aspects, from infrastructure problems to pedagogical and learning issues, with a marked educational gap. However, according to the senator, there is an additional element that cannot be overlooked: a crisis of confidence in the authorities, evidenced by a series of unfulfilled commitments.
Provoste remembers how, over time, promises and agreements were made that never materialized. The school communities of the region, mobilized on several occasions, signed protocols with the authorities, but these were not complied with. The situation reached a critical point in March 2023 and since then there have been mobilizations and new unfulfilled commitments, generating a climate of mistrust and discontent.
The senator also highlighted the conditioning of the public budget in the National Congress to resolve problems in the implementation of local public education services (SLEP), as well as the proposal for an “active pause” by the Senate Education Commission , which was rejected by the Ministry of Education.
Despite recognizing the good disposition of Minister Nicolás Cataldo, Provoste considers that time has run out and concrete solutions are urgently needed. In addition, he points out that the teams in charge of facing these problems in the field could require new profiles or greater capacity.
For the senator, the violation of rights accused by the Children’s Ombudsman’s Office is evident and reflects a problem that is replicated in different parts of the country. Her call is clear: we cannot waste any more time. It is necessary to collaborate and do our best to solve this educational crisis and allow the talents and abilities of boys and girls throughout the country to flourish.
