“Education Union Leader Granted Release by Tunisian Court”

The Correctional Chamber at the Court of First Instance of Tunis has accepted the request for release of the Secretary General of the Federation of Education Employees. The examination of his trial has been postponed until next June.

It should be recalled that the public prosecutor at the same Court had ordered the detention of Lotfi Atouani, general secretary of the Federation of Education Employees at the Ministry of Education following a complaint lodged by a director general at the ministry who had the trade unionist to see him physically attacked.

After the end of the detention period, the prosecution had issued a warrant of committal against him while bringing him before the Correctional Chamber which decided on his release.
