Port-Gentil, October 28, 2023 (AGP) – Visiting Port-Gentil, the Minister of National Education and Vocational Education, Camélia Ntoutoume Leclerq, reaffirmed the opening, this year, of boarding schools.
During his stay in Port-Gentillais, the member of the government carried out several activities, including the distribution of school textbooks, visits to boarding schools and vocational schools.
During this tour, Camélia Ntoutoume Leclercq spoke of the challenges encountered in the implementation of the educational strategy, in particular the difficulty of pooling resources according to the provinces. In addition, she also mentioned the quality problems in the execution of certain works related to educational establishments and boarding schools.
In this regard, she announced the upcoming opening of boarding schools, with particular attention paid to the equipment and optimal functioning of these facilities. It is planned to opt for a gradual opening of these boarding schools as models.
Regarding the quality of work carried out in certain vocational schools, she indicated that an investigation would be necessary.
“We will examine the specifications to determine responsibilities.” The government member also noted that this work often escapes the direct control of the ministry.
Aware that improving education is a priority, Camelia Ntoutoume Leclercq expressed her hope that the measures put in place will contribute to providing quality education to Gabonese learners. The minister remains determined to meet the challenges and improve the education sector in Gabon.
For her, the school textbook distribution operation began in the province of Ogooué-Maritime, with less than 30,000 textbooks distributed. This initiative aims to ensure students’ access to essential educational resources.
Also, she recalled the measures taken by the president of the transition to strengthen the teaching profession at the secondary level, with the provision of 1,000 budget positions, free registration fees, as well as the reduction of the cost of school uniform to 13,000 francs, thus reducing the financial burden on families.
