Education – Stuttgart – More Ukrainian refugees in schools in the southwest – Education

Berlin/Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) – The number of refugee children and young people from Ukraine has also increased significantly in schools in Baden-Württemberg. According to the figures published by the Conference of Ministers of Education (KME) on Tuesday, more than 4,600 more of them were admitted in the southwest compared to the previous week.

In a comparison of the federal states, Baden-Württemberg has so far taken in the most refugee children and young people: 14,175. Only Bavaria (17,678) and North Rhine-Westphalia (14,700) reported more. A total of almost 92,000 were admitted to schools in Germany.

In mid-April, the KMK President and Schleswig-Holstein Minister of Education Karin Prien (CDU) mentioned a possible size of up to 400,000 refugee students who could be accommodated at the schools. A total of around eleven million schoolchildren are taught in Germany.

Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression on February 24, the federal police have identified 400,632 refugees from Ukraine in Germany – mostly women, children and old people, as the Federal Ministry of the Interior announced on Twitter on Tuesday. Since Ukrainians can enter the country without a visa, the actual number is likely to be higher.
