Education starts a pioneering Bioclimatization Plan to “improve thermal comfort” in 65 schools in Jaén

JAÉN, Sep 30 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The territorial delegate of Education and Sports of the Board in Jaén, Antonio Sutil, announced this Thursday that 65 actions are already underway to install adiabatic cooling systems and photovoltaic solar panels in public centers in Jaén for a value of 23 million euros.

The territorial delegate for Education and Sports in Jaén, Antonio Sutil, has visited the Secondary Education Institute (IES) Las Fuentezuelas in the capital, where the Ministry has just completed the works that have allowed the isolation of the cover of the ESO classroom and Baccalaureate, an action that has had an investment of 160,718.25 euros and that will allow the improvement of the thermal comfort of the students and the teaching team of the center, as reported by the Junta de Andalucía in a statement.

In this line, the delegate has highlighted the commitment of the department headed by Javier Imbroda to improve the climatic conditions of the schools and institutes of the province, one of the most affected by the differences in temperatures throughout the course.

Thus, this center has also been the object of the installation of photovoltaic panels in recent months, a pioneering intervention that now extends to the rest of the province.

Regarding the 65 actions that will be carried out, he has pointed out that municipalities such as La Carolina, Navas de San Juan, Vilches, Linares, Villanueva del Arzobispo, Torredelcampo, Sabiote or Mengíbar, among others, will benefit from the plan.

All the selected centers are located in environments that present a thermal severity of grade four. “A rigorous analysis has been carried out of the regions that require an adaptation of their schools and institutes due to the fact that they present extreme temperatures, especially during the hottest months, which will allow improving the academic performance of students as a result of suitable conditions for learning “, highlighted the delegate.

The delegate explained that this initiative constitutes a program that gives continuity to the adiabatic and photovoltaic pilot projects started in 2020, with the novelty that in 2021 both actions are being executed simultaneously in the centers, so that both are covered the needs to improve the air conditioning of the centers as well as the savings and energy efficiency of the centers.

Adiabatic cooling is an alternative air conditioning system to conventional air conditioning that works by lowering the temperature of the indoor air through the evaporation of water. Its main advantages are low electricity consumption (up to 80% lower than air conditioning), lower Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions and lower initial investment and operating costs.

In addition, it works with the windows open, in line with what is recommended in the current Covid-19 situation, and always uses fresh air, without recirculation, thus improving indoor air quality.

Regarding the installation of photovoltaic solar panels, this allows a drastic reduction in the consumption of electrical energy in educational centers, and it is also foreseen that the surplus can be dumped into the grid, thus generating a return on investment.
