Schools: More careers orientation planned for all-day activities

Lessons in the morning, crafts in the afternoon: the Chambers of Crafts and Commerce want to attract young people to their professions with all-day offers at schools. As a result, professional orientation should play a greater role in all-day care in the future, as the Mecklenburg-Western Pomeranian Ministry of Education announced on Wednesday. In addition to the Chambers of Crafts and Commerce, the Chamber of Tax Advisors and the Business Education Center in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania joined the “Cooperation Initiative for All-Day Learning”.

Through the projects in all-day care, pupils are to be introduced to apprenticeships at an early stage. The offers should make it easier for them to choose a career, said Education Minister Simone Oldenburg (Greens) according to the announcement. “I am very pleased that the representatives of business are offering the young people additional orientation.”

The early career orientation should also counteract the shortage of skilled workers. Training positions that have not been filled for several years could have serious consequences for a company, said Holger Stein, President of the Chamber of Tax Advisors. “Students
and students should get a sense early on for what purpose they can best use their abilities and skills.”
