Tens of thousands of first-graders are starting the new school year in Hesse, usually with colorful school cones in their hands. According to the Ministry of Education, there are 60,400 first-graders this time – 1,600 more than in the previous school year. For most of them, the serious business of life only begins on the second day of the new school year. The individual schools decide on their own starting day.
