Mainz / Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) – The State Representation of Schoolchildren in Rhineland-Palatinate (LSV) demands that face-to-face teaching be maintained at schools in the state for as long as possible. “If the number of cases continues to rise, however, there must be other solutions,” said Federal Delegate Paul Rossitsch of the German Press Agency before the start of the national school conference in Saarbrücken on Thursday. The Federal Schoolchildren’s Conference wants to discuss, among other things, school in times of Corona during its plenary session until Sunday.
From a seven-day incidence of 50, for example, a general mask requirement could be considered as a supplementary measure, explained Rossitsch. The LSV is critical of an extension of the winter holidays, as discussed recently by the state ministers of education. Valuable time would be lost, especially for high school students who are preparing for the Abitur.
In 2018, the LSV Rheinland-Pfalz left the federal student conference, but is participating in the conferences as a guest delegation. The background was a changed statute and personnel decisions that did not correspond to the democratic self-image of the Rhineland-Palatinate. Bremen and North Rhine-Westphalia are not currently members either. According to its own information, the LSV in Rhineland-Palatinate represents around 400,000 pupils at around 630 schools with secondary levels I and II in Rhineland-Palatinate.
