Education: Reading makes you “rich” in pictures

“Especially in times of the Corona, reading is an essential part of promoting the cognitive development of children. And this is where my support comes in. “With this apt remark by the children’s book author Armin Pongs, he aroused the interest of Rector Manfred Hiebl and Vice Rector Gabriele Kleemann of the Neuburg-Ost primary school, and so there were two extremely exciting and interesting” alternating lessons “after many weeks of homeschooling – financially supported by the Rotary Club Neuburg. Thanks to organizational skills, all seven primary school classes were able to enjoy a digital reading via the Big-BlueButton video conference system. The first and second grades heard a fairy tale from the volume “Der Traumländer”, in which the friendly “Krokofil” and Princess Anna Lucia live together in the Palace of the King of the Rocks and become best friends. At the beginning of the reading it was agreed that if the author reads off and says “crocodile”, he has to do ten push-ups. The children listened carefully and he kept his promise. Through targeted interim questions about images in the children’s heads, he made it understandable that one becomes “richer” as a result. Pongs, whose main concern is to inspire children to read, promised each class a reading shell to support reading frequency, and a moonstone with stardust for each individual to drive away sad thoughts. Pongs gave the third and fourth grades an insight into his work as a writer. In addition, the students were allowed to be the first to get a glimpse of his new book “The Magic Calendar”. Pongs’ creative contribution to species protection is embodied in the book’s main characters, four friends between the ages of nine and eleven. They decipher hidden coordinates in constellations. With their help they get to various places in the world where they save endangered animals.

The children then asked the author questions with great interest, either directly with the help of the teacher and the microphone on the class computer or via chat. The pupils found it exciting to see a children’s book author at home in front of his wall of books with 3000 books that he had all read. And the teachers were also happy to have mastered the technical challenge of the Chiemsee-Ostendschule conference call for seven classes. (No)
