Education opens doors – with many surprises

Registration for vhs courses is now open www.vhs-celle.de by phone (05141) 92 98 0 or by email to: anmeldung@vhs-celle.de possible Program brochures are available at various sales points in the city and region of Celle and at vhs Celle, Trift 20.

It’s like an Advent calendar: there’s a big surprise behind every door. This is exactly what the new autumn/winter program at the adult education center (vhs) Celle looks like: New and experimental, strong courses and amazing lectures, seminars and educational holidays await you in every field. “In times of crisis and uncertainty, we want to use our program to strengthen a sense of community and resilience and in this way support people in experiencing the challenges of life and the world of work, “said Liliane Steinke, head of vhs Celle. “Education opens doors because it broadens horizons, creates perspectives and improves opportunities.” The new format “Boireann Beichdan”, which aims to open a space for the enthusiasm and abilities and skills of women, invites you to change your perspective. Whether it is about current affairs and politics, philosophy or social issues, economics or urban development. The planned meetings are supported by, among others, the equal opportunities officers of the city and district of Celle and the coordination office for women and business.

When the “program” doors open, vhs participants are spoiled for choice: for example, never before have so many courses been offered in the “cooking and enjoyment” area, from Indian cuisine, vegan to autumn casseroles and pumpkin dishes to the men’s cooking round. In the new “Move & Relax – vhs Movement Center” at Lauensteinplatz 1A, the calories are burned again with lots of exercise: The Dancers are Saturdays with improvised dance (CE4611), ballet as an introductory offer (CE4610) or for kindergarten children “Creative Dance” with their first ballet exercises (CE0945/0946). This time there is a very special offer for children and young people in the “Junge vhs”: On September 29 everything revolves around nature, the environment and energy. A mushroom safari, beekeeping, making your own soap balls is just as much a part of it as Doc Hu with 30 fascinating experiments on climate change. Artist Karl Thun invites children aged 6 to 10 to be creative with the theme “Life by the Pond” and Marta Morische goes in search of herbs with young “wild herb explorers” and processing the product into delicious snacks. The “Children’s Nature Day” courses can now be booked at www.vhs-celle.de.

The best thing at the beginning of the semester is the “British Evening” in the inner courtyard of the vhs Celle on Saturday, August 24, from 3 pm. The team of lecturers from the English department will provide entertainment, and the British actor Mark Lyndon, who lives in Hamburg, will flex the comic muscles with his program “How to be a Hamburger” – all in the easy to understand English. Registrations are with the course number CE3100 www.vhs-celle.de and tickets are also available at the box office for 10 euros.

If you want to learn another language or expand, you have twelve options this semester. What about Afrikaans? The course runs online from 3 September at 5pm (CE3903). Chinese and Thai are also included. Or Hebrew for beginners, every Thursday from September 5, 5pm, at Nofar Cohen (CE3903).

We can no longer avoid AI – artificial intelligence. Courses such as “Image Creation with AI” (CE5160) or “Practical Applications of AI” (CE5161) provide what is possible with this. If you prefer to be in charge of your own creativity, the workshops “Macrame” (LA2704), “Felting fairies” (CE2706) or “Make your own leather belt” (CE2603) are the right place for you your own ideas on paper to further develop writing skills (CE2101-2105) and on Saturday, November 9, the author Marina Maaß will learn how best to publish the results in a book (CE2106).

Sustainability and climate protection remain at the top of the adult education centre’s agenda. This can be implemented in everyday life as well. Andrea Marquardt implements amazing ideas in her courses “Sewing Projects with Sustainability” (WN2704-2706). In “Plants that Defy Drought,” Ellen Bielert shows how we can tackle climate change in our own gardens, and nature and landscape guide Gabriele Link takes nature lovers in the Bergen branch on three tours in the Südheide and around Sülze (BE1300- 1302).

Speaking of Südheide: The vhs branch offices are being strengthened: In Faßberg, Greta Kischer organizes the course offers and accepts questions and comments fassberg@vhs-celle.de in contrast to. The Unterlüß and Hermannsburg branches were merged to form Südheide and will be looked after by Jana Melzer.suedheide@vhs-celle.de).

The vhs Celle is also available on Facebook and Instagram at @Volkshochschule_Celle. The newsletter appears regularly and provides information on current events and gives us an insight into the work of the vhs team.
