“Education never stops”: school leaving certificate at the vhs Moers-Kamp-Lintfort

At the end of the evening courses at the vhs Moers-Kamp-Lintfort, 22 adults between the ages of 18 and 48 were happy to have successfully completed their school-leaving certificate.

At the end of the semester, a total of seven secondary school degrees and 15 intermediate school degrees (qualifications for a technical college) were completed. The latter have acquired particularly great merits. The participants began two years ago – just before Corona took everything “in its pliers”. But they were not discouraged, fighting their way through online and alternating classes. “They got through it together with their teachers. This created a special bond,” reported teacher Angelika Lucassen when the certificate was handed over in mid-June. “I will miss you!”.

Graduated with 1.0

Two participants also finished with a 1.0. “That happened maybe five times in all the years,” says Hans-Dieter Veldhoen, who watched the last certificate of his career for the vhs. While vhs department head Tim Henning was only able to take part virtually, representatives Manuela Görner, head Beate Schieren-Ohl, advisory board member and once vhs graduate herself Sibel Soylu-Kara, chairman of the development association Karheinz Rochelmeier and the designated Rotary Club Moers President Michael Heinz congratulated: “How Mark Twain said: Planning your life is like planning a trip. But while the first plans of life were probably made by your parents, the now completed part of the journey was carried out by yourself. And that despite the many hurdles and adversities of adult life, such as jobs and childcare. This deserves respect.” The Rotarians financially supported the evening courses and thereby upgraded them digitally. Sibel Soylu-Kara pointed out the importance of lifelong learning. “Education never stops. If you can, keep going, it’s worth it!”
