RÖHRMOOS/MUNICH. “The Röhrmoos high school enriches the educational landscape in the Dachau district. Together with the school funding agency, the Free State is investing sustainably in the future of young people in the greater Munich area. This new building is a great benefit for Röhrmoos and the Dachauer Land and especially for the young people here in the region. Whether cooperative forms of learning, inclusion or all-day: Here teachers, students and students will find the best conditions for good teaching in the future,” emphasized Education Minister Michael Piazolo today at the laying of the foundation stone for the new high school in Röhrmoos.
The Röhrmoos high school is designed as a two- to three-story building with side wings including an open gallery and atrium for around 900 students. It has a linguistic branch and a scientific and technological branch. The Dachau district is responsible for school expenses. The new building is scheduled to be completed by the 2025/26 school year.
“The issue of education is extremely important for our district and with the fifth high school we can meet the demand created by the introduction of the nine-year high school. If everything goes according to plan, we will ceremoniously open two new high schools in the district in September 2025. Thanks to our initial good experiences and the time pressure, we have broken new ground here in Röhrmoos: Instead of the conventional design, we decided on a PPP project for construction and operation. A public-private partnership (PPP) as a joint venture between the public sector and private sector companies. “It is progressing according to plan and today is another example of the always constructive and supportive cooperation here in the Dachau educational district,” said Stefan Löwl, district administrator of the Dachau district.
A special feature is that the school building of the new high school in Röhrmoos is being built in the so-called “Munich learning house concept”. The premises of the high school are spacious and flexible. The central auditorium offers plenty of space for the entire school family. Five so-called “learning houses” offer a wide range of options: with modern classrooms, a central forum as a learning marketplace and a break and meeting place, rooms for open or restricted all-day activities and for small groups and inclusion, as well as team rooms for the teachers. There are also specialist rooms and a cafeteria with an outdoor seating area in the central area.
The school will also include a triple sports hall rented from the local club and spacious outdoor sports areas, which will be modernized in the coming years with the participation of the district. When planning the building, particular attention was paid to sustainability and resource-saving use; a lot of wood, recycled building materials and a photovoltaic system were to be used. Piazolo spoke of an “architectural showcase project”.
“With the additional new building in Karlsfeld, two new state high schools in your district are expected to be completed by 2025/2026. The Röhrmoos high school will take on important educational policy challenges – such as all-day care or digitalization – in an exemplary manner,” said the Minister of Education at the laying of the foundation stone. The high school offers the best possible conditions for contemporary teaching and a diverse school life. “Children and young people will find an attractive learning and living space here in which they can develop into strong personalities,” says Piazolo.
