Education in the Harz: New semester at the district adult education centre: Offer even for bridal couples

Quedlinburg/MZ. – From burlesque to folk dancing to Charleston – the dance courses at the Harz district adult education center are in great demand. A completely new offering has been added to the program for autumn and winter.

It is called: “Your wedding dance course”. A suggestion from course leader Lars Jakobi, report Ulrike Stumpf-Schilling, managing director of the Harz district adult education center, and department head Marion Meusel. And explain: It is a course for several couples, but there will also be the opportunity to talk about an individual choreography with the course leader. He will also be organizing a standard and Latin dance course. “We are excited to see how it is received,” says Marion Meusel.

“Education is more knowledge” is the message on the new programme booklet, which is now available in many places and is once again full to bursting: around 500 courses are on offer in various areas, from people and society to languages to art and creativity. These include new ones such as “Appreciative communication for managers” in the area of work and career and “classics” such as PC courses, “Training for trainers” or courses in financial accounting. “We have seen an increasing number of inquiries from companies that see a need for further training and education for their employees and would like to use courses offered by the district adult education centre,” says Ulrike Stumpf-Schilling. “And educational holidays are a big hit. They are very well received.” Here, too, there are offers in the areas of careers and languages. Another – Swedish – is in preparation. When it is available, information about it will be posted on the district adult education centre’s website, says Marion Meusel. Ulrike Stumpf-Schilling and she recommend checking out the district adult education center’s homepage from time to time, as new things are constantly being added to the printed program. Such as a mini Italian course that begins on August 29 in Wernigerode.

Another major theme in the new program is relaxation and stress reduction, explains Marion Meusel. The program includes, for example, a relaxation workshop called “Yoga meets creativity” in the Drübeck monastery, which takes place on a Saturday. Or, completely new – in addition to the very popular back school courses – a holistic back school. Nordic walking is also now available again as a course. “Due to requests from interested parties who want to learn the right technique,” says the department head. And in the area of culture and design, a new lecturer, an artist from Stolberg, is offering a compact painting and drawing course in which you can get a taste of various techniques under supervision.

The fact that there are increasingly younger lecturers is a trend that pleases Ulrike Stumpf-Schilling. The district adult education center also wants to offer more courses specifically for younger people – such as the course “My first contracts” that has already been launched. One topic could be, for example, how to cook healthily on a small budget.

Marion Meusel has another tip for anyone who wants to strengthen themselves in the morning for the working day: “Successful breakfast online: stimulating impulses with your first coffee.” The 45-minute online courses start at 7:30 a.m.

Special event: Return to a new professional life

How can you successfully return to work if, for example, you want to reduce your working hours or change jobs after parental leave? The Harz district adult education center wants to offer support with its event “Family time – parental leave – what’s next?” This is aimed not only at young parents, but also at people who have been at home to care for their children and want to return to work or a job, explains Marion Meusel. Representatives from business, educational institutions and the state initiative “Further education in focus” will also be present at the event on September 11th, who will give tips and advice or provide information on funding opportunities. The event was already planned for the summer semester that is now coming to an end, but had to be cancelled due to a lack of response. “We are now trying a second start,” says Marion Meusel. The event, which takes place from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the district adult education center in Quedlinburg, is free of charge. “You can take away a lot of information here,” says the department head.

In the area of volunteer work, the district adult education center offers information courses for interested citizens who plan to work as volunteer carers. There are courses in Quedlinburg and Halberstadt that provide a brief introduction to guardianship law, in which important initial questions about the tasks, rights and duties of volunteer carers are answered and information about the regional care network is provided. Other courses in Quedlinburg and Wernigerode focus on imparting basic knowledge about legal care, information about the form and effects of a power of attorney and explanations of the living will. The actual module courses are then run by the care associations, explained the head of the department.
