Hanover (dpa / lni) – The teachers’ union VBE has welcomed the adherence to the Abitur and final exams at Lower Saxony’s schools. “It would be fatal if we dismiss the students, who are already disadvantaged by the corona pandemic, from school even without a” real “graduation with an examination,” said VBE state chief Franz-Josef Meyer on Friday according to a statement.
In this school year, too, the examinations could take place in an “orderly and legally secured” manner, but the content of the exams could be adapted to the subject matter. Because the school year does not end until the third week of July, the exams could also be postponed, explained the Association of Education and Training (VBE). It is important that the degrees are recognized nationwide.
According to the Association of Parents’ Councils of Lower Saxony’s High Schools, the discussion about a possible cancellation of Abitur exams is causing unnecessary uncertainty among students. Everything should therefore be done “so that the Abitur exams can be carried out fairly and with high quality,” said a statement on Friday.
The school management association of Lower Saxony had demanded that the exams and staying seated be waived. The Ministry of Education rejected this on Thursday, but added that there was no final planning security in the pandemic.
