Hanover (dpa / lni) – The end of the mandatory corona tests in Lower Saxony schools and daycare centers is met with criticism from the Greens. In view of the fact that the incidence is currently increasing again, she thinks it is premature to completely stop testing in daycare centers and schools, said the Greens parliamentary group leader Julia Willie Hamburg when asked by the dpa.
“At least in facilities with a high rate of infection, testing should continue to be mandatory.” Mandatory testing in schools and daycare centers has been an important tool in recent months to avoid school closures again.
According to the Ministry of Culture, there will no longer be a test obligation for school and daycare visits in the state from Monday. Those who want to test themselves will receive three test kits per week in May. This applies to all schoolchildren and day-care center children from the age of three. The ministry had already announced these changes. The mask requirement has already expired.
As additional protection after the Easter holidays, Lower Saxony had imposed a daily test requirement for all schoolchildren, and since mid-February tests for children over the age of three have been required three times a week for daycare visits.
The FDP welcomes the elimination of the obligation to test. The education policy spokesman for the parliamentary group, Björn Försterling, said: “This is the return to normality in the schools in Lower Saxony too. The tests have shown that there is no increase and no new variants after the holidays, so the elimination of the obligation to test is correct .”
The Education and Science Union (GEW) appealed that students and school staff should take advantage of the voluntary test offer.
