Hanover (dpa / lni) – From the point of view of the Education and Science Union (GEW), schools urgently need more staff and better equipment. “The general conditions are simply not right,” said the GEW state chairwoman Laura Pooth on Tuesday according to the announcement. “Face-to-face teaching is important, but it is increasingly being carried out on the back of school employees.”

According to this, many schools report that they lack specialists to help the students process what they have experienced or to find their way back to everyday school life. In addition, staff are not fully or not yet vaccinated against Covid-19. In many places there was hardly any structural change either, so that there were still problems with ventilation and hygiene.

“There are usually enough masks and corona tests available, but they neither shape the lessons nor the educational support for children and adolescents,” criticized Pooth and called for more new hires. Accordingly, the lack of willingness to invest has worsened the deficiencies in staff, premises and equipment.
