After nearly 2 weeks of strike, the group of associations of promoters of private schools in Mali ended their strike on Thursday March 23, 2022. Private establishments of General, Technical and Vocational Secondary Education, as well as Medersas have therefore returned to work this Friday, March 24, 2023. But this recovery coincides with the holidays at the end of the second quarter. However, the full resumption of classes will only be effective from April 03, the date indicated for the end of the holidays. According to the statement of the group, following negotiations the Government undertakes to pay without requiring tax documents, the amount of 8,007,095,000 FCFA. This represents school fees and half scholarships, which remains to be paid to private schools in Mali, for the year 2021-2022. For its part, the group of associations of promoters of private schools in Mali undertakes to pay taxes in accordance with tax legislation. Private schools had launched a five-day strike on March 13, which was subsequently renewed. According to the Department of Education, for the 2021-2022 school year, 3,042 private establishments had been identified.
