Dresden (dpa / sn) – First day of school after the summer holidays: everyday school life begins today (8 a.m.) for around 494,000 schoolchildren in Saxony. These include almost 40,000 first graders, around 1000 more than last year. The school year is once again under the sign of Corona – with numerous rules for quarantine, compulsory tests and masks.
In the first two weeks after school starts, students, teachers and educators have to test themselves three times a week if the incidence in the respective region is above ten. In addition, there is a stricter mask requirement in schools. It is valid at least in the first two weeks of school, not only in elementary and special schools, but also in lessons.
According to the Ministry of Culture, face-to-face teaching is planned for the new school year – regardless of the respective incidence. Restrictions such as changing lessons only exist when the overload level – i.e. critical bed occupancy in hospitals – has been reached.
With the start of the new school year, the traffic safety campaign “The school has begun” begins again with increased traffic controls, especially in front of schools. Interior Minister Roland Wöller (CDU) gives the go-ahead for the action in Döbeln.
