Education. Become an intern at the college of Altkirch

The boarding school Lucien-Herr d’Altkirch College takes place in an opulent building dating from 1904, erected in the middle of a wooded park, on the heights of the city. On site, all you have to do is climb a staircase and cross the playground to join the classes of 6e to the 3e which, for their part, are located in a much more recent building, built in 1997. The Lucien-Herr school is the only college to host a public boarding school in the Haut-Rhin (our edition of March 22, 2018). It has 44 places: 32 for middle school students and 12 for high school students. “We help the school when students live too far away to take the bus,” says Aurélien Bourdon, Principal Education Advisor (CPE).

School or family difficulties

Aurélien Bourdon is responsible, with his colleague Sadia Debiane, for the supervision and operation of the boarding school, alternating one hour each evening. A school nurse is housed on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Two educational assistants (AED), formerly called boarding school masters, provide continuous support for interns from 4 pm to 7:30 am. One sleeps at 1is floor, which is occupied by the boys; the other on the second floor, occupied by the girls. These students, from Colmar, Saint-Louis, Mulhouse, Thann, Belfort and even Altkirch, come from various backgrounds. Some are experiencing school or family difficulties. Others seek to become more independent or to “take off”, according to Aurélien Bourdon. “It is not enough to live far away to become internal: the selection does not depend on geographical conditions. And it is important to specify that the boarding school is not closed. It is not an alternative to the placement of disrupted students. We are neither specialized educators nor psychologists! “

Quality reception conditions

Academic success is the primary motivation of parents who choose boarding school – when this choice does not come from the student himself. At the end of the course, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., boarders receive help with homework, study or the CDI, with educational assistants. And twice a week, they have one hour of support lessons in French and mathematics. They also engage in sporting, cultural or leisure activities during breaks. “On Wednesday afternoon, we organize outings. Despite the health constraints, this year, we have maintained quality reception conditions “, explains Sadia Debiane. The annual boarding fee for a high school student is € 966 (without lunch) and for a secondary school student at € 1,465 (excluding scholarships). This sum includes full board and outings organized in the evening and Wednesday afternoon (cinema, show, tree climbing park, snowshoe hike, plastic arts workshop, etc.). “Here, they have everything they need to be successful. In general, when a student chooses in 6e to come to the boarding school, he stays there until the end of college. There is something for everyone. ”
