A series of online events on education and welcoming culture will take place from November 16-20, 2020. The almost 20 diverse, virtual lectures and online seminars are about learning German, looking for an apprenticeship or university place and the education system in Baden-Württemberg. The range of events is aimed primarily at schoolchildren, parents and young people with a history of migration, but also teachers and anyone else interested. The individual events have an informative character, but at the same time should also offer a platform for networking and for exchanging opinions and ideas on the subject of education in a diverse society in Heilbronn-Franconia.
Access to the education system is part of the welcoming culture in an open immigration society. However, the German education system offers so many different possibilities and paths that it is often a challenge for immigrants to find their way through the “educational jungle”. The Welcome Center Heilbronn-Franken, together with cooperation partners, cordially invites you to get information and exchange ideas at this year’s online event week “Education and Welcome Culture” from November 16 to 20, 2020. During this week, various events for different target groups – schoolchildren, parents and young people with a migration background, teachers and other interested parties – are offered daily between 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The program is now available online at www.welcomecenter-hnf.com.
PROGRAM INSIGHTS
parents can, for example, take part in the interactive workshop of the Baden-Württemberg State Media Center on the subject Media world of children and adolescents – opportunities and risks to inform. Other questions that will be addressed at various online events are: How does the education system work in Baden-Württemberg? Or how do I get family and work under one roof?
For the Schoolchildren and young people with a history of migration is among other things a Empowerment-Workshop offered by the Amadeu Antonio Foundation. Furthermore, dealing with new media such as TikTok, Instagram and WhatsApp will also be an issue here. Further questions that will be discussed are: school leaving certificate and then? How do I write a good application and how do I prepare for the interview? What alternatives to the regular language course are there to enjoy learning German?
Also for Teachers there are suitable offers such as a Online seminar on dealing with racism and discrimination at school. The informative and colorful program is intended to offer the opportunity for information and exchange in order to support students and parents with a migration background on their way to education in Germany.
Participation in the online events is free of charge. Further information about the program and registration can be found at: www.welcomecenter-hnf.com.
The series of events Building Blocks of a Welcome Culture was initiated in 2014 by the Welcome Center Heilbronn-Franken together with the cooperation partners of the Agencies for Employment Heilbronn and Schwäbisch Hall-Tauberbischofsheim, the Hohenloher Integration Alliance 2025, the District Diaconal Association Heilbronn, the District of Heilbronn and the City of Heilbronn. The aim behind this is to offer a platform on the topic of welcoming culture, to gain new ideas, and to enable an exchange and further development on this topic. After various event formats in recent years, such as a specialist conference or trade fairs and campaign weeks, this year all events will take place online for the first time. This created a solution to be able to offer the series of events even in times of the corona pandemic and to look at the topic of the welcoming culture from a wider perspective this year.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON THE SERIES OF EVENTS
The Welcome Center Heilbronn-Franken has been the main organizer of the event series “Building blocks of a welcoming culture in the Heilbronn-Franken region” since 2014. The symposium “A warm welcome – building blocks of a welcoming culture Heilbronn-Franken”, which took place on November 18, 2014, marked the beginning. In 2015, the series of events was continued on November 17, 2015 with the “Welcome Culture Fair”. More than 80 regional players used the “Welcome Culture” fair to present themselves and their activities related to the “Welcome Culture” theme and to network with one another. The exhibition stands, which were specially made for the trade fair, traveled through the Heilbronn-Franconia region as a traveling exhibition in 2016 in order to provide lasting information about the wide range on offer in the Heilbronn-Franconia region. In 2016, the cooperation team around the Welcome Center Heilbronn-Franken carried out a “Welcome Culture Action Week” for the first time. Numerous actors took part in the action week so that over 70 events took place in the entire Heilbronn-Franken region. The welcome culture action week was repeated in 2017. In 2018, the topic was “Heilbronn-Franken welcome culture market” on November 20, 2018 in the Silcherforum Heilbronn. It offered participants the opportunity to find out more about offers and contact points at stands, to take part in workshops and to discuss topics such as immigration law and local elections. In addition, the visitors were informed in short lectures on the subjects of professional recognition, training, applications in Germany, job interviews, employment contracts, rent, insurance, security on the Internet and the school system. At the Welcome Culture Forum on November 19, 2019 in the multi-generation house in Öhringen, the focus was on the participation and engagement of citizens with a history of immigration.
