“Education and Income Levels Impact Patients’ Knowledge and Attitudes towards Genomic Tumor Testing: Study Findings in JCO Precision Oncology”

In an article published in JCO Precision Oncology, researchers found that patients’ knowledge, expectations, and attitudes towards genomic tumor testing were associated with their education and income levels. Although patients from large rural and small/isolated rural areas had significantly less knowledge than their urban counterparts, this association disappeared after adjusting for socioeconomic factors. The researchers suggest that improving understanding and increasing awareness of genomic tumor testing among low-income and lower-educated patients could help reduce cancer care disparities.
