Education Action Council Calls for Career Orientation in Education System to Combat Skilled Worker Shortage

MUNICH (dpa-AFX) – In order to combat the increasing shortage of skilled workers, the Education Action Council, consisting of renowned educationalists, calls for career orientation to be consistently anchored in the education system. “The study and career orientation must be early, age-appropriate and interdisciplinary and anchored across the board in the curriculum,” said the President of the Bavarian Business Association (vbw), Wolfram Hatz, on Wednesday in Munich, summarizing the core result of this year’s report. vbw initiated the action council in 2005.

The authors of the report “Education and Professional Sovereignty” explained that pupils must be empowered to make their own career choices and competently. This is the only way to reduce the high dropout rate. To do this, young people not only need to know their own talents and interests. They also need to be informed about the variety of opportunities and the demands of the labor market.

In order to support this, the Action Council believes that a specialist responsible for promoting professional sovereignty should be appointed in all educational institutions.
