At 2:45 p.m. on Monday, January 18, he died Eduardo Jurado, founder of the Café Habano Diva Nicotina bar. This was reported by his wife, Alejandra Intriago, to this newspaper.
Jurado’s cause of death is COVID-19. He was 51 years old. According to Intriago, almost since the 11th of this month he was admitted to a health home. “That (death) happened due to a very, very, severe, very complicated lung condition,” he said.
Intriago thanked for the messages through social networks. “Very, very comforting, quite comforting because they are very real, very honest. He was a great musical manager. Thanks to him the Guayaquil movement of the unpublished music of alternative rock groups, jazz, etc. was given,” he said.
“For me, that place that he built, that he founded, that he managed, that he managed, led, managed, was really, it was a temple for me …”, he added.
Intriago recalled the clear goal he had in establishing a bar. “He said that if he made a bar he would not play covers, because he was tired of the habit of Guayaquil bars of always playing the same music, that the customer was right in terms of music and he said: ‘no, the Guayaquil native lacks a lot of musical culture, here the one who puts music is me ‘, then he rejected that precept, very cool, he said let’s do it here, I’m going to listen to musical groups and since he had a very good ear he said:’ this group sounds, it sounds very good, you play, you only play unpublished music ‘ . And as a result of that Diva Nicotina was what she was, which is the space provided for many groups to become known … “, he said.
According to the wife, the bar was named after a book. Jury administered Diva Nicotina from 2004, the year of foundation, until 2012.
One of the most famous visits to Diva Nicotina was that of the Argentine Charly Garcia.
Jurado from his first marriage has his daughter Janis Jurado Rendón. With Intriago she had no children, however she has her firstborn from a previous relationship. “With my son it was like a father, my son is called Emilio Zambrano … but Eduardo was (also) was his daddy for the last four years, they had an infinite affection,” he explained.
