Eduardo González: 80% of the places where the tiger mosquito grows are private properties “| Radio Murcia

The Department of Sports and Health, through the Municipal Health Services, works with a special device to combat the insect in all corners of the municipality using different methods and means, such as drones and a helicopter for areas of difficult access.

Likewise, this week these tasks are also focused on the districts of Beniaján, La Alberca, El Puntal, Churra, Cabezo de Torres, La Arboleja, El Esparragal, Algezares, Zarandona, San José de la Vega, Gea y Truyols, Torreagüera, El Raal, Los Ramos, Santo Ángel, Monteagudo, Los Dolores, as well as in different areas of the urban area, such as in the scuppers of the Plaza de la Catedral or the Jardin de San Esteban, among other places, according to municipal sources.

However, as the head of the Public Health Service of the Murcia City Council, Eduardo González, explained in La Ventana de la Región de Murcia, 80% of the sites where the outbreaks accumulate are private properties. Hence, the importance of citizen collaboration, either avoiding water accumulations or communicating the existence of these sources to municipal services.

Some of the recommendations, according to the City Council, are:

Tips to avoid the sting:

-You can use repellants, especially on the legs. The mosquito usually bites in the areas of the body closest to the ground.

-Maintain good body hygiene. Sweat and strong body odors attract them.

-Put mosquito nets on the windows and use electrical devices against insects.

Actions to combat it:

-Avoid containers that can accumulate water, such as buckets or drums.

-Eliminate accumulated water on objects or empty it weekly, such as in vases, ashtrays, potting plants, plastic pools, drinking fountains or tires.

-Lid hermetically with lid or mosquito net the water tanks.

-Maintain the chlorine levels in your pond, pond or pool.

-Put in your pond or garden fountain ornamental fish, which eat the larvae.

-Clean roof and terrace gutters regularly.
