“Eduardo Camavinga: The Rising Star of Real Madrid and Potential Game Changer in the Season Finale”

After a bumpy start to the season, Eduardo Camavinga has firmly established himself in the starting XI. Whether in midfield or currently as a left-back – the Frenchman is now one of the absolute top performers for Blancos – and could become one of the decisive figures in the season finale.

Camavinga makes Kroos “competition”

If you talk about Toni Kroos and his career at Real Madrid, his advisor Volker Struth likes to use the term in view of the transfer fee of just 25 million euros “Bargain of the Century”. And you don’t want to contradict Struth with a view to the successes and importance of the Greifswalder for the royal team. Currently located Eduardo Camavinga however, well on the way to making considerable “competition” to the 2014 World Champion in this respect. Of course, the 20-year-old Frenchman, who switched from Stade Rennes to Concha Espina last summer for 31 million euros, is still far from the status, let alone the title collection, of a Kroos, but the development of Real’s number 12 in recent months is more than impressive – and the limit is far from in sight. curious: Should the Copa del Rey final be won on May 6, the left-footed player would have won every possible title with Real Madrid – and that in his second year.

Last season primarily in the function of “super sub”, especially in the Champions League, “Cama” has meanwhile established itself in the top eleven. Even more: With 49 out of a possible 50 appearances, no Blanco has featured more often this season! After the first half of the season, which was characterized by considerable fluctuations in performance, which are also completely normal for this age, the Frenchman is now a permanent fixture. Initially used as a midfielder after the World Cup, the gifted left-footed player has been brilliant at left-back for a few weeks due to Ferland Mendy’s injury. And with the performance of the last few games, one thing is actually certain: for the season finale, even if Mendy returns, there should actually be no alternative to Camavinga in that position.

From experiment to permanent solution on the left?

What initially started as a forced experiment could now turn out to be a permanent solution – at least until the end of the season. Due to its characteristics, Camavinga actually seems to be the better option on the outside at the moment. As a trained midfielder, the Frenchman has a more distinctive and mature positional play than his compatriot Mendy, from which Vinícius Júnior in particular benefits enormously, since Camavinga is clearly more present offensively and thus creates more space for the Brazilian. Thanks to his explosiveness and technical finesse, he is also able to solve one-on-one situations accordingly and thus provide offensive moments of surprise and breakthroughs on the outside.

The French national player has also come to terms with the new position defensively and has almost completely eliminated the initial wobbles in the positional play. And in an emergency, Camavinga knows how to help himself with his enormous athleticism. An incredibly valuable overall package that coach Carlo Ancelotti also appreciates.

“He has exceptional quality – physically, technically, tactically. There’s energy in him, he’s a complete player. As a complete player, he can play successfully in any position. Since he is very young, he is still improving. Therefore: For me, he can play anywhere on the pitch. If I set him up as a centre-forward, Camavinga will do his job. If I set him up as a central defender, he does his job because he has something special. His qualities make him a special player.”the Italian praised his all-rounder effusively after beating Celta Vigo 2-0.

The medium-term future lies in the middle

It is precisely this mixture of defensive physical robustness and tackling strength paired with technical quality and playing strength that could make Camavinga in the left-back position an extremely important piece of the puzzle in the duel with Manchester City. Against the high and aggressive pressing of the “Skyblues”, security on the ball, good positional play and enormous tactical variability should be the priority – a requirement profile tailor-made for the Frenchman. On the other hand, City’s incredible individual quality has to be kept in check against the Ball. Camavinga seems predestined for this, too, if you take as a basis the last appearances against Barcelona (opponent Raphina didn’t do a trick) or Chelsea.

But one thing is also certain: in the medium term, the future of the royal jewel is definitely in the middle. To do without this playful class and dynamic in the center would be almost negligent in the long run. As Camavinga himself says: “I like playing as a midfielder rather than a full-back but I’m here to help the team and I’m happy.” At the moment, however, the qualities of the youngster are in demand elsewhere. Similar to Toni Kroos, who knows how to shine more and more as a duel after Casemiro’s departure and can thus continue to duel with Camavinga, who is really the bargain of the century at Real Madrid.
