Eduard Holzbauer relies on new assembly technologies, innovative developments have done it to him.
ST. PAUL. With his patented fence post technology, Eduard Holzbauer from St. Paul, who has been running the locksmith’s shop of the same name for eight years, has raised the possibilities of designing the outdoor area to a new level. Easy to assemble and with a modern design: the 45-year-old has been working on the so-called “Bydsyd” fences for more than two years and is continuously optimizing them. We talked to him about his spirit of research and future plans.
WEEK: Were you already planning your own projects to obtain patents when the “Eduard Holzbauer Locksmith’s Shop” was founded?
EDUARD HOLZBAUER: After quitting my old job as a fitter, it was clear to me that I wanted to develop new products. I founded my company in 2013, where everything revolves around the manufacture of stainless steel railings. Many people now also know my great passion for new projects.
How did the idea for developing the “Bydsyd” technology come about?
A customer once said that I should develop a garden gate that could be produced quickly. This was how the foundation for this idea was laid. Since a garden gate also requires posts and other elements, this project took on ever larger forms. This has now resulted in a fully assembled garden gate including gate posts. In addition, no loose parts have to be assembled in order to attach double rod mats between the individual posts.
Why are the assembly-friendly products so popular?
One hour of work is usually already expensive, there are costs for delivery, arrival, departure and the hourly wages of the fitters. My new development is well received by fitters and end customers, there is a lot of effort.
What are the advantages of such a fence?
Customers attach great importance to the design, as the fence catches the eye several times a day. There is no need to worry about where to see the mat. This fence construction looks the same on both sides. Even with corner posts and the start and end posts, no end of the double rod mats is visible. There is no need for plastic bags for loose parts, which contributes to sustainability.
Do you see yourself as the winner of the crisis with this product?
Home improvement is booming. The fence project benefits us in these times as many people are investing in their own home. But of course there are also disadvantages with other projects.
When could series production of the fences start and what are the future prospects?
At the beginning, production is carried out to order and series production is set up in parallel. We are currently negotiating the production price with a potential manufacturer. The aim is to make this fence post technology a success and create new jobs.
