Edsilia Rombley on Hit The Road: ‘Difficult to turn off people’s cars’ | NOW

In the new SBS6 talent show Hit The Road Judges Edsilia Rombley and Gordon, among others, drive across the country in search of singing talents with special, personal stories. The two sometimes found it difficult to judge the participants. Rombley: “Sometimes I found it difficult to get people out of the car.”

The setup of the program reminds Gordon of the well-known Carpool Karaokesessions by American presenter James Cordon. “I am a big fan of this setting. I didn’t have to think long when I was asked. ”

‘There is simply so much talent’

Which Hit The Road one of the many talent shows is on Dutch television, Rombley doesn’t care. “I always think: if you like music, how can there be too many vocal programs. There is simply so much talent in the Netherlands that deserves a stage, ”said the singer.

What Hit The Road according to Rombley and Gordon, are the personal stories of the participants. “Everyone who gets into our car has a special story. Sometimes I was so impressed by a certain story that I found it very difficult to judge someone by his or her voice,” said Rombley.

‘Together in the car creates a bond’

According to Rombley, the personal stories of the candidates created moving moments. “You sit so close together in the car and that already created a bond. I found it difficult to turn off candidates every time because they were not allowed to continue.”

Gordon was also very impressed by the stories of some of the participants. “You don’t think possible what some people go through in their lives.”

The singer and presenter has often been part of juries in his career, but found judging in Hit The Road a “special experience”. Gordon: “You really get to know participants when they are in the car with you. Besides that, an audition in a car sounds very different than on a stage. It cannot be compared. “

Besides Rombley and Gordon, Nick & Simon and Roel van Velzen are also part of the jury. Each jury member ultimately takes two candidates to the final. Hit The Road will be broadcast on SBS6 from September 5.
