Edpnet complains to Belgian telecom watchdog about Proximus and Mobile Vikings – IT Pro – News

The telecom provider edpnet filed a complaint with the Belgian telecom authority BIPT on Tuesday. The company accuses Proximus of ‘unfair competition’, pointing to the Internet subscriptions of Mobile Vikings.

According to edpnet, it is not possible to compete profitably with the new fixed internet subscriptions of Proximus subsidiary Mobile Vikings. Edpnet therefore wants to pay less for the use of Proximus’ network. Mobile Vikings has Tuesday Fixed Internet subscriptions made available† For 38 euros per month there is a subscription with a maximum of 100Mbit/s down and up to 40Mbit/s up. For 53 euros per month, the download speed is a maximum of 1Gbit/s down and 500Mbit/s up. Mobile customers receive a monthly discount of three euros on a subscription.

Edpnet has more than 45,000 customers in Belgium and uses the Proximus network. The company offers, among other things, fixed internet with legally determined prices. According to Joachim Slabbert, the operational director of edpnet, it is “impossible for the provider to have the same offer in terms of internet subscriptions as Mobile Vikings, without cutting into its own skin”.

Because there are no connection costs with Mobile Vikings, the provider has to recoup costs through the monthly subscription. However, Slabbert states that this “is not economically feasible with the price that Mobile Vikings customers pay”. “As a subsidiary of Proximus, Mobile Vikings apparently has different rules than we do. If we matched their offer, we would sell at a big loss.”, says the director to Het Laatste Nieuws† That is why edpnet wants to pay less for the use of the Proximus network and enforce this via BIPT.

Mobile Vikings does not want to respond to edpnet’s complaint to Het Laatste Nieuws. It first wants to investigate the complaint itself and respond to BIPT.
