The state of health of Senegalese international goalkeeper Édouard Mendy is a matter of concern for his fans and teammates at English club Chelsea. Mendy underwent finger surgery earlier this year and is currently undergoing rehabilitation.

According to information from the Telegraph, Mendy does not seem to be in a hurry to return to the field to help his team which is currently going through a bad patch with no wins in the last six league games. “Mendy is apparently in no rush to return from surgery,” the newspaper writes, “while the 30-year-old doorman was expected to at least train with the group”.
The English club recently released a documentary about their goalkeeper training, but Mendy was not mentioned in it. The Telegraph suggests that “without an extension of his contract, Édouard Mendy is excluded from the present as well as from the future”.
Mendy’s contract extension with Chelsea is currently on hold. The goalkeeper is under contract with the club until June 30, 2025, but has reportedly refused a contract extension offer deemed insufficient in relation to his performance. This situation could benefit teams such as OGC Nice, AS Monaco and AC Milan, who have all expressed interest in the best goalkeeper of the 2021 season.
