The number of friends needed differs from person to person.
Friendship is one of the most neglected human relationships. In the lives of our study participants, we have repeatedly seen friendships, both male and female, deteriorate due to neglect. Friendship is fostered by free will. That’s why it’s wonderful, and that’s why it’s ephemeral. Just because something is ephemeral doesn’t mean it doesn’t have much value. This means that in order to maintain the friendships you already have and make new ones, you need to act with intention.
One of the questions we are most often asked is, “How many friends do I need? 5? 10? 1?”
