Editorial: Commitment – Journal L’Economiste du Faso

Lhe President of the Transition addressed the issue of food sovereignty, during the raising of colors, last Monday, at the Presidency of Faso: he only produces and will eat rice and corn produced on the land of Burkina Faso . His statement was applauded by the audience. But more than that, it would be necessary for the fine communicators of the Transition to follow up on this presidential commitment to transform it into an individual commitment of each Burkinabè for specific products. The President of the Transition made this commitment in the sense of supporting our farmers and our economy. He is rice and corn, but others could commit to millet and milk, to local couscous, bread made from locally produced wheat. It is at this price that we will boost domestic demand for certain products and stimulate the value chain of the agrosylvopastoral sectors. Strong demand would force producers and processors to look for ways to invest more in order to cope. Preferring local products to certain imported ones then becomes a patriotic act in the ambient context of today’s Faso: fighting against poverty and creating wealth for the national economy.
