After six years of good and loyal service to Ferrari, Sebastian Vettel is joining the new Aston Martin team (ex Racing Point) powered by Mercedes for the 2021 season. And given the competitiveness of the single-seater, we put on a podium of the German, determined to restore his image.

The Stations of the Cross came to an end in Abu Dhabi in mid-December and the suffering of an entire season, the last with Ferrari, finally seems over for Sebastian Vettel. The quadruple world champion with Red Bull has been playing in the Italian team for six years. The announced idyll did not finally take place and the many technical setbacks of the red single-seater during this 2020 season will have sounded the death knell for this agreement. Out of respect, Sebastian Vettel has always given the maximum for his team but had the lead elsewhere, in England, on the side of Silverstone and Aston Martin, his future team in 2021 (which replaces Racing Point). The German said it, he would have liked to start the exchanges and the upstream “work” with the British brand much earlier in the season but out of respect, he finished his lap with Ferrari in due form. Rid of the porous Ferrari engine, Vettel will get to know the Mercedes engine during the next world championship. Although it has shown some signs of weakness recently, it remains the most reliable and the best on the board. On the basis of this year’s Racing Point, the Aston Martin will benefit from many innovations already in place.
A competitive single-seater
Like the good performances of Sergio Perez (1st in the GP of Sakhir) and Lance Stroll (the future teammate of Vettel, 3rd in Sakhir also), the German will be able to benefit from a car that has already proven its worth in the past. And even if his future teammate is the son of the team manager, Lawrence Stroll, the quadruple world champion is doing well in a team where he is considered the captain. Reliable and fast, the ex Racing Point has shown that it has it and that it can compete with the tenors of the field. On the other hand, the pilot has not lost any of his abilities. Experienced, the German remains, despite recent years, a safe bet on the circuit. Above all, and finally rid of his ordeal at Ferrari, he will be keen to express himself on the track as he sees fit. So, given the profile and the performance of the single-seater he will drive, except for major failures of course, and the vengeful and determined spirit of Vettel, we are betting on a podium in 2021. With or without the help of a safety car, a technical failure of a single-seater or an improbable error by a competitor, the future will tell.
