Defore the Transitional Legislative Assembly, the Prime Minister, questioned on the Transition’s agenda, did not cut corners. Security first, elections later. His answer in the form of a joke made more than one honorable in the hemicycle smile: “if there is security, tomorrow we will organize the elections”. The message is therefore clear. The Transition does not want to let itself be diverted by this final objective which will consecrate, at the same time, the end of its mandate.
Should politicians be concerned about this? Yes, if they do not have visibility on the electoral process. They are in a hurry to resume their favorite sport, with the return to constitutional order. But, in light of the security situation depicted by the Prime Minister, namely 65% of the territory is currently under control, the objective has not yet been achieved. And he asks for everyone’s support for the peace or war effort, it depends. This speech, a priori, seems rather realistic.
However, the authorities are committed to holding the elections by July 2024. ECOWAS is observing and will advise in due course. For the moment, the Transition is at war and it intends to win it by paying the necessary price.
