Edition Thionville – Hayange | Solidary medicine cabinet: a gesture towards the most deprived

The cooperative network of Wellpharma pharmacies which brings together around a hundred pharmacies in France, including several in Thionville, Hayange, Fameck and Florange, has just launched the operation “L’Armoire àharmacy solidaire” which aims to help more deprived to provide hygiene products (toothpaste, baby wipes, toilet milk, soap, etc.) thanks to donations. “Material precariousness also translates into precarious care,” remarks Jean-Pierre Dosdat, pharmacist in Thionville. And to continue: “In the midst of a coronavirus epidemic, we urge people to wash their hands regularly, but there are families who cannot afford to buy soap. “

50,000 products in the first year

Wellpharma relies on a community of around 200,000 people nationwide who help fuel this solidarity fund. This contribution can also be made in situ, within the pharmacy itself. “We allow our patients to make one or more purchases of hygiene products for people in need. Some of our suppliers are also part of this mutual aid approach. Once harvested, the products are then donated to various charitable associations – the Red Cross and the Ptits Loups in Thionville – who are responsible for redistributing them to needy families. “We hope to reach 50,000 products in the first year,” said the Thionville pharmacist, who added that “The Medicine Cabinet” is “a day-to-day approach” intended to “be sustainable”. In the same vein, the Wellpharma network offers “My Pharmacy at Home”, an operation which concerns the elderly. “The idea is to maintain a social bond with an often isolated public, by helping them to sort through their medicine cabinet. Home audits are also carried out to assess their needs and then provide solutions. “
