Edition Thionville – Hayange | Polyvalent high school: final year students without philosophy teacher since September

The problem is not new, but “the phenomenon is taking hold,” remarks a professor at the Lycée polyvalent de Thionville, who was born out of the merger of Colbert and Sophie-Germain high schools. As of September, students in a ST2S grade 12 (Health and Social Sciences and Technologies) class still do not have a professor of philosophy, a subject which is coefficient 2 in the baccalaureate and which cannot be improvised. The situation, however, reported to the rector of the Academy of Nancy-Metz by the management of the establishment has, to date, not found a favorable outcome. “As soon as they were alerted, the academic services set up support for the establishment by activating their network of contract professors. For these students who are in the examination class, the National Education undertakes to make up for the teacher’s absences by replacing and making up for lessons, “the Rectorate said by letter, which also indicates that research of a professor is in progress. In fact, a contract professor was indeed hired in September, did a day and called the next day to say stop. The sign that the professorship “cannot be improvised”, quips the professor of the high school versatile who denounces a D system in the process of normalization. “The teachers organize themselves and give an hour here and there to replace absent colleagues, but that is not enough to prepare the students well for the exam,” said the teacher.

Coef 7 management: three months without a teacher

And what about STMG students (Management and Management Sciences and Technologies) who have not had a management professor for more than three months, a coefficient 7 subject in the baccalaureate? The specificity of this discipline, the search for a candidate with the required skills has proven difficult according to the Rectorate which specifies that a contract teacher was hired on January 21 to “replace his absent colleagues”. “A patch, no more no less,” retorts the doubtful teacher. And the letter states: “A delegation of additional hours may be granted to the establishment, if necessary, in order to ensure support for the students”. Suffice to say that the situation is far from normalized.
