She was thwarted – and fought her way forward: Now Edith Graf-Litscher from Thurgau is leaving the political stage after 20 years
On Friday, Edith Graf-Litscher will be dismissed from the National Council. In the Bundestag, the SP politician stood out with her fight for public service, her good rapport with citizens and her unshakable optimism.
Edith Graf-Litscher travels from Frauenfeld to Bern one last time as a parliamentarian – in the Intercity locomotive: The cab ride on Monday was part of her introductory program as a new member of the SBB board of directors.

Edith Graf-Litscher beams. Not just on this Monday afternoon, but almost always. Hardly anyone in the Federal Palace appears as optimistic as the Thurgau SP National Councilor. Colorfully dressed, determined, talkative: This is how she will spend her last week in parliament. The 59-year-old is no longer running in the elections and is leaving the Bern political stage next Friday after 18 years – as the longest-serving member of parliament in eastern Switzerland, alongside Brigitte Häberli-Koller (Die Mitte/TG).
